What is 'PBeM'? How Does It Work?

E-Mail Simming (also known as PBeM, E-Mail RPG, or several other acronyms) is the process of creating a character, then portraying that character in situations set up and run by a GM and their crew. The emphasis in e-mail simming is on developing your character to make him or her more realistic and to interact better in his/her environment.

Each player writes a post - a piece of writing - using generally their character at least once a week. You can have your character just about do anything that's within the logical realm of your sim's background.

E-Mail simming itself takes place through a mailing list containing the email addresses of all the registered players.  When a post is complete, a player simply sends the completed posts via the list, which distributes the post to all the other players on the list.  For a more thorough explanation on this subject, please refer to the "Game Rules" section.

Sirius PBEM is a non-profit organization, and in order to remain free, our staff either opt to not pay for listservers, or find alternate solutions.

In 2371 the U.S.S Voyager went missing while trying to locate a Maquis vessel near the Badlands. Starfleet official listed her as "lost" in 2373, Subsiquently contact was re-established with her crew fourteen months later. Shortly after the Pathfinder project was established, over seen by Admiral Owen Paris.

Facing invasion from the Gamma quadrant by the Dominion, Starfleets resources were stretched thin, with every availible resource or ship, being used to defend the Federation. It seemed like little could be done to help Voyager getting home. It was at this time that the U.S.S Sirius, a Miranda class refit recently brought out of mothballs. Was being prepared for combat readiness at Utopia Planitia. Using his influence, Admiral Paris procured the Sirius for the Pathfinder Project. Enlisting a crew of volenteers, their mission would be to head out to the Delta quadrant, going beyond Federation, Klingon and Romulan space. Already in her senior years, the Sirius was hurried through her refit, which saw many of her key systems replaced with parts from newer vessels, such as the Defiant and Intrepid class. Finally with her systems brought up to spec, the Sirius disembarked from Earth in October of 2374.

While on route through a Nebular heading for Klingon space, the Sirius encounters an alien life form in the finally evolutionary transition to becoming non corpereal. Feeding off the ships warp core, the crew almost kill the life form but are prevented by the Q continuum. Who protect the creature, so it may join the continuum.

As gratitude for sparing it's life, the creature gives the crew of the Sirius a gift, believing it to be what they want most of all. Transporting the Sirius 85 thousand light years in to the Delta quadrant, over shooting Voyager. The crew of the Sirius find themselves also stranded. Unable to contact Starfleet and low on supplies, the Sirius sets course for home.

In 2381, six years after their encounter with the alien that stranded them. The crew of the Sirius, now under the command of Captain Tomas Jorin. Discover the remains of a Borg outpost, long abandoned. Picking through the wreckage, they are able to reconstruct a partially working trans-warp drive. Connecting to the ships engines, the crew use it in a desperate attempt to get home.

Arriving on the outskirts of Federation space, the Sirius suffered a catostrophic system failure. Never designed for trans-warp travel, the ship begins to break apart. Passing control to the ships ECH, the crew abandon ship.

Returning home four years after the U.S.S Voyager, the crew of the Sirius are welcomed back as heroes. At Starfleet command there is a difference of opinion regarding Captain Jorins actions. Brought before a command level hearing, led by Admiral Edward Jellico. Captain Jorin faces questions over the loss of his ship and what Jellico considers blatant 'Cowboy' command ethics. Fortunately due to the crews popularity since returning and the support of Vice Admiral Katheryn Janeway, no charges are brought against Jorin. However Jellico insist that as a penalty for his actions, Jorin be kept at the rank of Captain.

Mid 2381, the remaining crew of the Sirius under the command of Captain Thomas Jorin are assigned to a Nebula class starship, recently recomissioned NCC 79045-A U.S.S Sirius.
