Younger brother to Mark Kyle, Willaim was interested in science and technology from an early age. His parents both Starfleet officers, raised Willaim and his brother while out in space. During their tour of duty. William was exposed to life aboard a Starship, surrounded by technology. It was not suprising that his grasp on such things as the transporter and replicators came at an extremely early age. His early development severly effected his ability to make friends, as his interest was more in his studying. At the age of 18, William enlisted into starfleet academy. In the begining of his first year, William's instructors noted his inablity to properly work in teams. This one problem would have forced him out of the academy, if not for the help of Boothby. Groundsman at Starfleet Acadamey, Boothby was considered by cadets, to be a vicious old man. However that did not stop him from helping William overcome his problem. By the time of his second year, he had made a complete turn around. On completing his term at the academy, William was posted at Starfleet head quarters assisting instructors at the academy. William earned the rank of ensign, three months into his active duty. Not long after, William put in a request to be transfered aboard the USS Sirius. Once his request was accepted, Williams gathered his bolongings and began his long journey to the Sirius.

During his first mission onboard the Sirius he was cut off from the rest off the away team, yet, showing amazing initiative and courage was able to de-stabilise the ships main power core. The Ensign, after recovering from his wounds was promoted after the Sirius' Commanding Officer Captain Dennis Kepler was mortally wounded during the away mission, to the rank of lieutenant (JG) and ships Second Officer.

After an encounter with an alien entity left the sirius stranded in the Delta quadrant. Captain Paxton was removed from command. After a transporter incident, reduced her to a 17 year old. Kyle was promoted to first officer by the newly appointed Captain Tom Jorin.

On discovery of his brother’s presence on board ship, Kyle tried to reason with and apprehend him on his own instead of alerting the security team in an attempt to protect him, even going so far as enlisting Security Chief Tramor who remained ignorant of the details to look the other way. The conspiracy was uncovered by the Commanding Officer, and Kyle was reprimanded for putting the ship at risk. It was never uncovered whom Mark Kyle had been recruited by, or what his task had been aboard ship before his discovery.

In 2378 after a year of his brother’s confinement, he petitions the Commanding Officer to integrate Mark into the ships crew, reasoning that it was better than keeping him behind a force field. After much debate regarding his brother’s dangerous nature the request is granted. The decision is unpopular with the crew, difficulties arose between Mark and the rest of the serving crew and Kyle is held responsible, compromising his ability to command with authority.

In 2381 Kyle led an away mission that came to grief and Chief Engineer Doyle was lost. Kyle vowed he would never lose another person.

On the last day of the Voyager rescue mission he volunteered to manually stabilise the slip-stream conduit when all contact was lost with the critically damaged Engineering section. Kyle traversed the failing ship and despite suffering lasting trauma to his eyes and lungs from toxic chemicals and ionised radiation exposure in engineering, was able to restore critical command functionality to the bridge crew.

On receiving ship-wide orders to abandon ship he was able to heroically effect the escape of a dozen crew members who had been trapped by failing power on deck 6 by reconfiguring the cargo bay transporters to beam the survivors to the escape deck.

In the final moments of the evacuation of USS Sirius NCC-79045 on arrival to the escape deck with his partner, Officer Marlene Sheva (who was amongst the survivors) and he were struck by an unknown energy discharge. Officer Sheva was believed killed outright.

Unwilling to leave, Kyle was forcibly put into the last escape pod to launch by his brother Mark, sacrificing his own place in the launch to save his younger brother’s life.

Witnesses aboard the craft testified that Kyle suffered what appeared to be a mental break and had to be restrained for his own safety.

Side note: In response to evidence presented by eye witnesses and the data flight recorder that was later recovered, Mark Kyle’s criminal record was expunged by a tribunal in the light of the role he played in the Delta quadrant and his selfless act to preserve the lives of the other crewmembers.

He, along with others that lost their lives that day received full posthumous honours in recognition of their service and sacrifice.

Treated for injuries sustained (Files attached) and underwent post- traumatic assessment and counselling and deemed fit for service.

Promoted to Lieutenant Commander in recognition of his service and actions by the Admiralty, pending re-assignment.

Later that year remanded to the care of the Specialist Psychiatric Care Unit in New Jersey following an incident of attempted self- harm at his apartment. In the light of his service record and mental state, no charges were laid for damage to property.

He made strong progress in therapy sessions for the better part of a year as an outpatient and based upon the recommendation of the attending physician, therapist and two senior officers is restored to active service and assigned under the command of the newly commissioned Captain Thomas Jorin as Second Officer.
